Ministry: Russia’s spring sowing 12% faster on year as of May 31

MOSCOW, Jun 3 (PRIME) -- Russian farmers have sowed 47 million hectares with spring crops as of May 31since the start of spring field works, which is 12.4% more than as of the same date of 2018, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement late on May 31.

Spring crops are to be sowed on 52.288 million hectares in 2019. Grain is to be sowed on 29.548 million hectares.

Sugar beetroot was sown on 1.1 million hectares or 100.5% of the forecasted area. Sunflower was sown on 8 million hectares, or 103% of the forecasted area.
